How to Choose a First Aid Kit for Hiking and Travelling
When hiking, camping or travelling, it's useful to keep essential first aid supplies together in one place. A dedicated first aid pouch helps protect medical items from dirt and mechanical damage while keeping them neatly organised and easy to find.
The Pinguin First Aid Kit range consists of three lightweight zipped pouches. Choose the right size according to the number of people, the length of your planned trips and the amount of first aid equipment you need to carry. All three models are sold as empty pouches without medical supplies.
Pinguin First Aid Kit S: Compact Pouch for Essential Supplies
Pinguin First Aid Kit S is the smallest model, suitable for day trips, hiking or use as a personal first aid kit. With compact dimensions of 14 × 9 × 6 cm and a weight of just 42 g, it takes up very little space in your backpack.
Internal mesh dividers help separate individual medical items and make the contents easier to organise. The pouch is suitable for basic dressings, plasters and other small first aid supplies according to your individual needs.
Pinguin First Aid Kit M: More Space for Hiking and Travelling
Pinguin First Aid Kit M offers more storage space while remaining lightweight. Measuring 13 × 17 × 7 cm and weighing 95 g, it provides a practical balance between packability and capacity for additional first aid equipment.
Inside, mesh dividers help organise medical supplies, while a separate, larger zipped pocket provides additional storage. This makes it easier to keep smaller items separate from bulkier equipment.
Pinguin First Aid Kit L: Spacious Pouch for Longer Adventures
Pinguin First Aid Kit L is the largest model in the range, suitable for a more extensive selection of first aid supplies, longer trips or shared equipment for a small group.
Like the medium-sized version, it combines internal mesh dividers with a separate zipped pocket, allowing different types of medical supplies to be stored neatly. The empty pouch weighs 120 g.
Which First Aid Kit Size Should You Choose?
- First Aid Kit S: the smallest and lightest option for basic personal supplies, day hikes and shorter trips.
- First Aid Kit M: a versatile size for hiking, weekend adventures and travelling with a larger selection of medical supplies.
- First Aid Kit L: a more spacious option for longer journeys, more extensive equipment or a shared first aid kit.
Choose the size according to the actual quantity and dimensions of your equipment. A pouch that's too small can be difficult to organise, while an unnecessarily large one takes up valuable space in your backpack.
Durable Materials and Practical Organisation
Pinguin First Aid Kit pouches are made from lightweight, durable Robic nylon with a PU coating. The material helps protect the contents against dirt and everyday wear. However, the pouches are not designed to be fully waterproof.
All sizes feature a YKK zip with two sliders for convenient opening. Internal compartments help keep equipment organised, while rear attachment loops allow the pouch to be carried on a belt or attached to a backpack hip belt.
What Should You Pack in a Hiking First Aid Kit?
The contents of your first aid kit should reflect the length of your trip, the type of activity, the number of people and individual medical needs. For general outdoor activities, useful items may include:
- Basic wound care supplies: sterile dressings, bandages, plasters and supplies for treating minor injuries.
- Practical accessories: disposable gloves, small scissors and tweezers.
- Personal essentials: any medication you need and additional equipment recommended by a healthcare professional.
- Activity-specific supplies: blister plasters for hiking and other items suited to your planned activities.
Before every trip, check your supplies and their expiry dates. We recommend keeping moisture-sensitive medical items in a separate waterproof pouch.
Where Should You Keep Your First Aid Kit?
We recommend storing your first aid kit somewhere easily accessible, such as the top pocket of your backpack or a dedicated compartment. Thanks to their rear attachment loops, Pinguin First Aid Kit pouches can also be attached to a belt or backpack hip belt.
