Hydration for hiking, cycling, travelling and everyday use
The best way to carry water depends mainly on the length of your activity, weather conditions and how often you can refill along the way. A compact bottle may be ideal for everyday use or a short walk, while a hydration bladder can be more convenient for cycling, running or hiking when you want to drink without taking off your backpack.
At Activent, you can choose hydration equipment from trusted outdoor brands such as Pinguin, CamelBak and Sawyer.
Water bottles – simple and versatile
Water bottles are a versatile choice for hiking, travelling, sports and everyday use. When choosing one, consider its capacity, weight, material and type of cap or drinking system.
Lightweight Tritan™ bottles combine low weight with good impact resistance, while their transparent body makes it easy to see how much water is left. Depending on the model, they may also feature a wide mouth for easier cleaning, volume markings, a removable strainer or a sports drinking spout.
Some bottles made from Eastman Tritan™ are also available in BPA- and BPS-free designs. Always check the specifications of the individual product, as material declarations may differ between the bottle body, cap, seals and other components.
Stainless steel bottles are another durable option designed for repeated long-term use. They are a good choice when durability and resistance to everyday wear are a priority.
Hydration bladders – drink without taking off your backpack
A hydration bladder, also known as a hydration reservoir, is particularly useful for hiking, cycling, running and other activities where you want quick access to water without stopping to take a bottle out of your backpack.
The reservoir is placed inside a compatible backpack and the drinking tube is routed towards the shoulder strap. When choosing a hydration bladder, consider not only its capacity but also the size of the filling opening, ease of cleaning, bite valve design and whether the hose can be disconnected.
A 2-litre hydration bladder is usually sufficient for shorter trips or smaller backpacks, while a 3-litre reservoir provides a larger water supply for longer days outdoors or routes with limited opportunities to refill.
Thermos flasks for hot and cold drinks
For winter trips, travelling or long days outdoors, a vacuum thermos flask helps keep your drink at the desired temperature for longer.
Double-wall vacuum insulation reduces heat transfer and helps keep hot drinks warm and cold drinks cool. When choosing a thermos flask, consider its capacity, weight and cap design.
A compact 0.5-litre flask is practical for one person or shorter trips, while capacities of around 0.8–1 litre provide a larger supply of tea, coffee or another drink for longer journeys.
Water filters for travelling and outdoor adventures
If you cannot carry all the water you need from the start, a water filter can be a useful part of your equipment. Outdoor filtration systems allow you to treat water from suitable natural sources and can reduce the amount of water you need to carry.
Filtration capabilities vary between products, so always check the manufacturer's specifications to see which microorganisms, particles or contaminants a particular filter is designed to remove.
Spare parts help extend the life of your equipment
A damaged or lost cap, strainer or strap does not always mean that the entire bottle or hydration system needs to be replaced. In our bottle spare parts and accessories section, you will find replacement caps, strainers, straps and other components for selected bottles and hydration systems.
Before ordering a replacement part, always check its compatibility with your specific bottle or hydration system.
How to choose the right hydration system?
- Everyday use and shorter trips – a lightweight water bottle of around 0.5–0.75 l.
- Day hikes – a bottle of around 1 l or a hydration bladder, depending on refill options.
- Cycling, running and active sports – a sports bottle with a drinking spout or a hydration reservoir.
- Longer hikes – a 2–3 l hydration bladder or a combination of a reservoir and bottle.
- Cold weather – a vacuum thermos flask for hot drinks.
- Trips with access to natural water sources – a suitable outdoor water filter.
When choosing your hydration equipment, consider not only capacity but also weight, ease of cleaning, cap or valve design and the materials that come into contact with your drink. For individual products, we therefore provide available information about materials and declarations such as BPA-free or BPS-free whenever these are confirmed by the manufacturer.
