Nomad 50 Double

Five centimetres of full foam about the size of a small double bed to give you and your better half the ultimate in a good night’s sleep, not to mention thermal insulation. What’s more, the surface is made of brushed polyester, which prevents the sleeping bag from slipping on the pad and is very pleasant to the touch.

Because we’re proponents of equal partnerships, we’ve fitted this sleeping pad with two nylon valves so you don’t have to waste time deciding who’s turn it is to inflate it. On the other hand, the sleeping pad is not divided into multiple chambers, so gentlemen can be of great help to their partners.

Lamination

To prevent air leaking through the pad’s top material, an impermeable membrane has been laminated to the polyester fabric. Laminating a continuous membrane instead of applying a coating eliminates the risk of uneven coating in areas where the material is uneven. This can lead to insufficient coating being applied and air leaking out in the affected areas. The use of PU foam with a thermally laminated membrane (TPU) is the highest quality combination of materials on the market today.

Foam

The core of every self-inflating sleeping pad is the inner foam. Pinguin sleeping pads are filled with Polyurethane foam, whose open pores retain air, thus giving it excellent insulating properties. The foam has a very good shape memory, which helps it inflate rapidly and means it does not sag even after years of frequent use.

Valve

Nylon valves are intentionally used on Pinguin sleeping pads. The reason for using them instead of brass valves is that they are 100% air-tight due to the material’s partial elasticity, their low weight and greater resistance to freezing. The nylon used on the valves is sufficiently strong and tough.

Full foam

Full foam with no lightening components is the most comfortable construction with the best insulating properties, though at the cost of high weight and poorer packability. Sleeping pads with this type of construction can be used year-round, but, due to their high weight, they are not ideal for hiking.
